We are delighted to share the incredible news that our Taiao Team emerged as winners in the prestigious ‘Kaitiakitanga’ category at the NRC Environmental Awards held on Friday, 21 July, in Whangarei. The event was a momentous celebration of environmental achievements, and we are immensely proud of our team for this outstanding recognition.
Led by the visionary Nora Rameka, our Taiao Team has been working tirelessly on our mission to restore and protect the environment of Te Tai Tokerau, guided by the principles of kaitiakitanga and Māori values. This award reflects our dedication and unwavering commitment to empowering our community, fostering inter-generational environmental kaitiakitanga, and preserving the unique cultural heritage of Northland.
The evening was filled with excitement and anticipation as we joined other remarkable finalists who have been making a significant difference for Northland’s environment. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals and organizations passionate about sustainability further reinforced our belief in the power of collective action and community collaboration.
As we proudly accepted the award, we couldn’t help but think of the immense support we have received from our community, partners, and stakeholders. This victory belongs to each and every individual who has contributed their time, expertise, and enthusiasm to our project. It is a testament to the incredible spirit and dedication of our Taiao Team and the wider community of Te Tai Tokerau.
